How to Migrate Your Business Email Without Losing a Single Message

Migration Tool Limits

  • Without an account: 5 migrations per day, up to 5 GB per migration
  • Registered users (free): 20 migrations per day, up to 20 GB per migration — when migrating to Mailbux
  • Any IMAP to any IMAP: The tool is not limited to Mailbux — you can migrate between any two email providers

To remove limits, simply create a free Mailbux account — no credit card required.

How the Migration Tool Works

The migration tool connects to your source and destination email servers via IMAP over SSL. It copies all your folders, messages, and attachments without modifying or deleting anything on the source server. Your original emails remain untouched.

  1. Enter your source server details (hostname, email, password)
  2. Enter your destination server details (defaults to my.mailbux.com)
  3. Click Start Migration
  4. Watch the progress in real-time — folder by folder, message by message

Bulk Migration

Need to migrate multiple accounts? Use the Bulk Migration tab in the migration tool. You can add accounts one by one or import a CSV file with the format:

source_host, source_email, source_password, dest_host, dest_email, dest_password

The tool processes each account sequentially, showing progress for each one.

Before You Migrate

  • Verify your source credentials — make sure you can log in to your current email via IMAP
  • Check IMAP is enabled — some providers (like Gmail) require you to enable IMAP access in settings
  • Note your server hostname — common examples: imap.gmail.com, imap-mail.outlook.com, mail.yourdomain.com
  • Use app passwords if needed — Gmail and Outlook with 2FA require app-specific passwords

After Migration

  • Verify all folders and messages transferred correctly
  • Update your DNS records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC) to point to your new provider
  • Update email clients with new server settings
  • Keep the old account active for a few weeks to catch any missed emails
